Self-Care: Love Your Feet Again

Our feet might be the most neglected part of our body. They keep us upright, get us from place to place, and are under constant pressure. The truth is, we do not take enough time to thank them and care for them as much as we do other parts of our body. Here are some routine tips you can choose from to easily treat your feet from the comfort of your own home.

PUT YOUR FEET UP WHEN YOU CAN

If you are like most people, you are always on your feet during the day. In this case, at the end of the day lay down and put your feet up. There is a reason why this simple action feels so good. By using gravity, the excess fluids run down and out of tissues to relax your muscles, reduce swelling, and make you feel relieved.

SOAK YOUR FEET

In warm water for about 15-20 minutes, soak your feet to help blood circulation. You can also add elements such as sea salt or epsom salt and essential oils to soften skin, soothe soreness, and fight possible infections. You will begin to feel more relaxed if you put this in your daily routine.

MASSAGE AND MOISTURIZE

One of the best gifts to give yourself is a foot massage. Start at your heels, adding pressure with your thumbs and fingers working your way all the way up to each toe. Add foot cream or any natural butter such as cocoa, shea, or mango for a soothing moisturizing sensation. Doing both of these after a nice soak in warm water, can help relieve tension and release muscle stress.

GIVE SOME PERSONAL SPACE

It goes without saying but wearing shoes with enough room for your feet to breathe is a great feeling because cramped toes are no fun. It’s quite alright to wear heels for special occasions but try not to make it an everyday thing. It also helps if you keep your nails trimmed so that they do not bump up against your closed toed shoes. Even at home, it is important to keep supporting your feet. Try some orthotic slippers when walking around indoors.

POLISH AND TRIM YOUR TOES

If you are not taking a break from painted toenails, take your time to trim them up and paint a new color. Try out some polish with organic, natural ingredients. After this, let them breathe and just sit and relax. Maybe try reading a book or listening to a podcast.

Love your feet. Take care of them because they take care of you!
